Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam is a former vocalist for the backup band of Philadelphia International Records. When she was five, her father was appointed as her curator at Strawberry Mansion Section. Strawberry Mansion Section. Her family eventually moved into this old structure. In 2005 she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as an alumnus in vocal music. Sullivan played the contralto for the youth choir, and later sang in the adult chorus. He was exposed to secular music but was at first limited "I was doing solos in the church, and I was asked to be a part of a gospel label when I was 11, but I was not yet ready," she recalls. "Then when McDonald's had a competition for students in big cities I was invited to perform 'Accept What God Wills' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience responded really well". In the year 13 she performed along in a duet with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan had signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was fifteen. She recorded the entire album but it was never released. Sullivan was then removed by the label. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott and produced many of the tracks on her debut album, which included the hit single "Backstabbers" - produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
